Why I know our local jeweller more than I'd like🤦‍♀️

Above are a couple of pics of some of our cutting machines that are used for cutting our Lahay garments. The little orange one is a newish addition! We purchased it after losing a similar corded one in the 2022 floods, and it's my favourite😍. Why do I love this cutter so much.....Well, it is zippy, and because it is cordless, there is no electric cord🔌 for someone to cut through. ⚡Yes, I have been known to cut through a black power cord, sitting on black fabric! Thank goodness for trip switches 🤦♀️Hey, I was just testing them out- twice!

This orange cutter is what we use on smaller fabric lays of approx. 4cm thick, so mostly our jersey styles.

The big blue beast with an 20cm straight blade is used for our thicker fleecy lays, such as our annual shearing jackets orders (more on that in a later email😉).

In Australia, it's law to wear the chain mail glove pictured. In fact, there are fines in place ranging from $155,000 to $11,561,000 for non-compliance. When we were contract sewing in the early years of Lahay (read more here about those years), I saw many designers and machinists opt out of using these gloves due to cost- about $250. Well, I value our fingers/lives more than $250! Not to mention, the aforementioned fines!

So, why do I know our local jeweller well? Well, I have cut the tip off this mesh glove more than once 🤫in 29 years and darning our glove with new links is not something he is likely to forget 😆. Needless to say, I am so happy that I have always been strict on the wearing of these gloves (we have multiple sizes for multiple people), because this would have been my finger that was cut in a split second😝
