Who knew knit one, purl one could be turned into Morse code? Not me! 🫨

Who knew knit one, purl one could be turned into Morse code? Not me! 🫨

As promised, here's some more fun sewing facts......

🧵 Secret Stitches: Did you know that sewing was once used to send secret messages? People would stitch symbols or words onto handkerchiefs and exchange them as gifts. Mary, Queen of Scots was known to use this method to plan her escape and jailed suffragettes sewed messages on handkerchiefs, as they were not allowed pen and paper in jail. Many women in WW1 and WW2 used both sewing and knitting to relay messages, either as spies themselves or to pass onto spies. No one suspected the meek looking lady sitting by her window, knitting a Morse code equivalent into her work😉

🍭 Candy Couture: Some creative designers have crafted dresses using lolly wrappers and jelly beans. And who could forget Lady Gaga's meat dress 🥩

Record-Breaking Threads: The longest piece of fabric sewn by hand reached an impressive 37.2 metres, while the longest sewn by machine stretched an astounding 547 metres.

📏 Tiny Masterpiece: The smallest piece of fabric ever sewn by hand measured just 1 cm, yet it boasted an incredible 7,000 stitches! I'm not sure how that's even possible 🤔

🎨 Sewing Machine Art: Today, sewing machines aren't just for seams in clothing—they're used to create intricate embroidery art and designs that rival paintings. We use this method for our free styled embroidered dress and our embroidered wrap dress.
